She was named after her mother, Mattie Lou Bradford. Went by 'Lorene' growing up in Gibson Co and just 'Rene' by her siblings. When she was old enough to leave home she went to Detroit MI with her brother, Garrett, and a neighbor, Waymon Hundley, who was home from Detroit at the time, around 1936. She married in 1938 and is recorded in the 1940 census as a waitress. She later changed her name to Lorraine. In the 1950s the family moved to San Antonio TX but after Ross died in 1956, her and her two sons returned to TN to be near her family. Her brothers Carl, Sully, Lloyd, and Ray assisted the family in beginning a new life in Trimble. She eventually began work at a local garment factory, The Jax Co, to support herself and daughter. Her sons had joined the service after high school but they too returned home after their service.
